Hey lovelies,
It’s that time of year again: back to school. I know you’re probably not feeling totally ecstatic about having to wake up at 6 am every morning to sit through long, boring classes. If you are anything like I was in high school, you know that getting ready for school is not the easiest thing in the world. Even in college I still struggle to leave my bed, even though most days, my classes don’t start until 11 am!
In high school, there were 3 things that would motivate me to get out of bed every morning. The first thing was of course tea. I know, I’m obsessed! It woke me up and felt like a comforting, caffeinated hug, telling me that I can get through the day. The second thing was music. I made multiple playlists of various genres, to set the tone for the day. Every morning, I would end up dancing and smiling in front of the mirror as I did my makeup or straightened my hair. The third motivator was getting dressed! Styling and putting effort into my outfit every morning was something I actually looked forward to. I loved going to school in a look that made me feel confident and ready to take on the day, even if that meant putting on heels instead of sneakers, or wearing a bold dress that would probably make me seem a little too “extra”. (BTW, there’s absolutely nothing wrong in being a bit extra!)
Since music and clothes played such huge roles in my morning routine, I’ve put together a look book that consists of 3 looks in 3 different styles to give you some basic outfit inspiration. I’ve also created a playlist of upbeat pop songs you can wake up and dance to, or play in between classes to keep you focused and energized.
Look 1: Classic & Focused

top: White House Black Market / shorts: thrifted, Gap / flats: Asos/ bag: Longchamp
High waisted shorts and a thin cropped sweater is the perfect combo for warm sunny days, spent in chilly classrooms. To complete the look, I put on a simple pair of black flats and my favorite bag ever, my Longchamp tote!
Look 2: Cool & Collected

top: H&M / pants: Primark / booties: Sam Edelman, Nordstrom / backpack: Northface
You can never go wrong in skinny jeans and a bright sweater! I threw on a pair of booties to dress up the look (Even though it’s a casual outfit, I couldn’t resist wearing a heel!) and added my Northface backpack for a studious, relaxed vibe.
Look 3: Preppy & Polished

top: Brandy Melville, skirt: Forever 21, shoes: Converse, bag: Fjällräven
I haven’t worn this skirt since my sophomore year, but I felt like now was the perfect time to bring it back out. Inspired by Clueless and the iconic 90’s style, I decided to play with today’s trend of off the shoulder tops and mix it with a nostalgic plaid skirt. White converse was an obvious choice for comfort reasons and this Fjällräven backpack was the perfect accessory to finish the outfit!
Back to School Playlist
This school year, I want you to create a morning routine that you love. Wake up and make tea or coffee. Dance in your bedroom until your sleepy eyes are wide awake. Wear whatever makes you feel confident, empowered, and strong. Make this school year the best one yet by studying hard, dressing cute, and striving for success!
xoxo,
Eliz
